Leonard S. Hyman, CFA, is a senior industr y ad vi sor to Salomon
Sm ith Barn ey. Previously he wa s manag ing director of Fulcrum Interna-
tion al Ltd " as well as an in d epe n den t con sultant specializing in th e
econ omi cs and fina.nces of ener gy and telecommunications utilities,
Fro m 1978 to 1994, as h ead of the Utility Research Group and first
vice p resid ent at Merrill Lynch, he sup ervised and maintained equ it y
resear ch on foreign an d d ome stic ener gy and telecommuni cation ut ili-
ties. He was a memb er of pri vatization teams for offerings of British ,
S pan ish, Mexican , Arge n tine and Brazilian utilities and consultan t for
ot her re stru cturin g stud ies . Pri or to joining Merrill Lyn ch, he wa s a
partn er at a New York Stock Exchan ge memb er f irm and an officer at
C hase Ma n ha ttan Bank.
