Abstract

After mor e th an 40 years as a regulatory strong ho ld, the natural
gas indu str y felt th e fir st s tir r in gs of a fundamental ch an g e
up on th e ena ctme nt of the Na tural Gas Policy Act of 1979.
Thro ug h fits and starts the indu str y has been ref ormin g itself, Th e
n atur al gas indu str y is now subject to competitive forces. Cu stom er s
ge nera lly have sup plier cho ices and the indu str y tend s to focu s on cus-
tom ers and their need s. The new structure is qu ite an im prove me n t over
th e historic struc ture .
