Abstract

According to one cons ultan t, the EPA is ab out to poun ce on elec-
tric utilities, again, with a rule that will limit the size of particles emi tted
by pow er stations, and that ruling w ill lead to the shu td own of a signifi-
cant p er centag e of c oal-fired p ow er plant s. N o w , th e Cl int on
Admini str at ion , in its ene rgy bill, ha s prop osed to com ma nd that the

Leonard S. Hyman, Sr. Indllstry Advisor Salomon Smith Ba rneq

Leonard S. Hyman, CFA, is a sen ior indu str y adv i sor to Smith
Barney. Pre viously he wa s managing director of Fulcrum Internati onal
Ltd ., as well as an independent consultant specializing in the economics
and financ es of energy and telecommunications utilities.
From 1978 to 1994, as head of the Utility Research Group and first
vice pr e sident at Merrill Lynch, he supervised and maintain ed equ ity
research on foreign and domestic energy and telecommunication util i-
ties. He wa s a memb er of privatization teams for offerings of British,
Spani sh , Mexican , Arg entine and Brazilian utilities and con sultant for
othe r restructuring studies. Prior to joining Merrill Lynch , he was a part-
ner at a New York Stock Exchange memb er firm and an officer at Cha se
Manh attan Bank.
