Abstract

P roducing electricity economically, efficiently, and reliabl y in
small, geo graphically dispersed units, new technologies like fuel cells
and m icro-turbines promi sed to transform the landscape of power gen-
eration in a deregulat ed , competitive future energ y serv ices market.
Distributed generators are no w being coupled with ad vanced energ y
storage devices. The new conc ept is called Di str ibuted Resources (DR).
Some energ y compani es are already laying strategic plans to u se
di strib uted res our ces to crea te cu stom ized ser vice offerings that can
meet a vari ety of user needs, including premium po wer, p eak po wer ,
an d coge neration requ irement s.
Thi s art icle de scribes the new opportunit ies posed by the advent of
p int- size po wer plant s and othe r d istributed resources.
