Abstract

Among the many sup erior technical authors whose articles have
app eared in The Association of Energy Engineers' publications, Mr . Milton
Meckler stands out for his creativity, breadth of experience, and the
compr ehension with which he details his reports. On behalf of the readers
who ha ve been helped by him, it is an honor to thank him with this
"Outstanding Technical Author Award."
Mr. Meckler often draw s together wh at sometimes seem to be d ispar-
ate technologies into novel, seamless systems. He directs readers toward
in novative energy and en vironmen tal concepts. Engin eer s are not usually
thought of as "creative"- but Milton belies this misconception, and offers
us new , and expanding, technological avenues to explore .
There are no "da ydream s" in his articles. All are bas ed on the sound-
e st-and highest-le vel-t echnical principles. His qualification s are listed
below . He ha s helped ed ucate enginee rs by autho ring several books, and by
writing articles for man y publications, among which are the three AEE
journals listed here.

Milton Meckler, P.E., CPC

Milton Meckler, P.E., CPC, cu rrently head s "The Meckler Gro up " based in Los Angeles, Californi a, which is actively involved in the design and cons tr uction management of major commercial, instit utional and industrial facilities nationwide.

A gra d ua te of Worcester Polytechn ic Institute "With Distinction" (wi th a BSE) and the Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Stud ies, Universi ty of Michigan (with an MSE), he was elected to both Tau Beta Pi (eng ineering) an d Sigma Xi (scientific research) honorar y socie ties; and to the American Associ ation of Enginee ring Societies Who's Who in Engineering. He was an adjunct professor of mechanical and chemical engi nee ring, School of Engineering and Computer Science, Californ ia Sta te Univers ity, Northridge (CSUN) from 1982 to 1984, after earlier serving on the CSUN facu lty as instru ctor (1980-1981)and adj unct assoc ia te professor (1981-1982) and adjunc t professor mechanical and chemical engineering (1982-1983). Mr. Meckler is the recipi ent of the Asso ciation of Ene rgy Eng ineers 1992 Envi ronmental Professional Award, ASHRAE's 1990 Crosby Field and Best Symposium Paper Awards ; and the Amer ican Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)1991Outstand ing Civil Engineering AdvancernentAward of Merit.

He has served ASHRAE as a memb er of TC 9.1 (Large Build ing Air Conditioning Systems), TC 5.6 (Smoke and Fire Contro l), TC 3.5 (Desiccan ts), SPC-129 (Ventila tion Effective ness), and a member of SPC-62-1981R (the committee that prep ared ASHRAE Standa rd 62-1989). He has also served on ASHRAE's edi torial board-Journal Committee, Presid ent-elect Advisory Committee, Publishing Council, Ed ucation Council, ASHRAE / ARI Joint Expo Policy Committee, Appeals Panel for Stan da rds , vice cha irman - Technology Council, director at large, ASHRAE Board of Directors (BOD), BOD ExO member of Handbook Committee, Jou rnal/ Insights Commi ttee, Specia l Publications Committee, Cha p ter Programs Committee, Contin uing Ed uca tion Committee, and Techn ology, Ene rgy, and Government Activities Committee.

Mr. Meckler is a licensed mechanical, industri al, chemical an d manufactu ring engineer in California as well as in numerous other sta tes and territories including Orego n where he also is licensed as an environmental engineer. He is also licensed as a gene ral bu ildin g and eng ineering contractor in Californ ia, and was recentl y awarde d title of Certified Professional Contrac tor by American Institute of Con tractors. In 1985, Mr. Meckler was elected to Constructor grade by the American Institute of Constructor s. He was elected Fellow of the American Institute of Chemists (1984), Fellow of the American Society of Mecha nical Engineers (1989), Fellow of the National Academy of Forensic Eng inee rs (1990), and Fellow of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerat ing and Air Conditioning Engineers, Inc. (ASHRAE) (1986); as chai rman of the recently formed 36-member ISO/TC 205, Building Env ironment Design (1995-2000); and Ll .S, Techn ical Advisory Gro up (1993-1997); and recently served as a director-at-lar ge of ASHRAE, for 3 years, ending Jun e, 1998. He currentl y serves as vice chair of ASHRAE's Techn ology Council.

He served as author, co-author and editor of more than 285 publication s for several well-known engineering, trade and oth er magazines, jou rn als, books and handbooks (of which 7 are texts and handbooks), published by McGraw Hill, Van Nostrand Reinh old , Fairmont Press, Prentice-Hall, and the American Society of Plumbing Engin eer s. He ha s autho red more than 48 patent s and six informational vid eos.
