Recent Advances in Welding Simulation of Aeronautical Components

This paper presents the results of numerical modelling of two welding processes: Friction Stir(FSW) and Laser Beam Welding (LBW). For FSW, the objective was to predict the residual stresses using a simplified approach. For LBW, the objectives were to develop a methodology to predict distortions and residual stresses of welded fuselage panels. In both cases, predicted results agree very well with experiments.
