In the simulation of metal forming processes with the finite elements method, one can find a significant distortion of the elements in the used mesh. This distortion can lead to significant errors or even to a completely incorrect numerical solution. Elements with large deformation result in a divergent behaviour in the non linear resolution process. Therefore, in metal forming processes, it is essential to remedy these problems by introducing remeshing techniques. In metal cutting, the problem we are treating in this paper, the elastoplastic nature and the damage of the material require the mapping of different fields (plastic deformation, stresses, damage variable, etc). This mapping is done by using methods based on diffuse approximation and interpolation.
