When the population mean X of the auxiliary variate x is not known, it is well known that two-phase sampling is of significant use in practice. Keeping this in view, a general class of estimators is suggested to estimate the population mean for the variable under study using auxiliary variable in two stage double sampling scheme. Some special cases of this class of estimators are considered and compared by using a data set. Finally, it is shown, how to extend the class of estimators if multi auxiliary variables are available in the case of two stage double sampling scheme. The approximate expressions for bias and mean square error of the suggested estimators have also been derived and theoretical results are numerically supported.
