Abstract

Determination of the optimal fibers' orientation in a ply of a laminated plate is presented to attain a maximal strength criteria. The optimization method couples genetic algorithms approach with the finite element method. In-plane loaded plates and square plates subjected to bending are optimized in numerical examples.
